Days when you leave fresh tracks in new powder. When no one else is on the trail. The sky is blue. Snow is outlining all the trees. The creek is still flowing. And you are filled with a sense of wonder.

Patrick. Who I can be snarky with. He swears. Drinks. And is totally fabulous. Sometimes I don’t know what I’d do here without him.

Booking a trip to San Francisco to see my ladies. Reading old New Yorkers in the sun in my favorite corner of the kitchen. A sunny winter walk after yesterday’s rain and snow. And being able to recognize that I am in a beautiful place in my life right now.

9 miles in cold rain. Chocolate chip cookies that almost burn your tongue. And an excuse to stay inside for the rest of the day.

Discovering a new bar in my small town. Where the bartender wears a tuxedo, red cummerbund, and bow tie. He really classes up the place.

A night on the wall. Rarely making it the top. And deciding to be better next time.

Getting back in the pool and feeling pretty strong. When I wasn’t drowning. 13 boxes at my door. The latest magazines I produced. And they look good.

A zero degree start. An afternoon that warmed up enough for me to run outside. And reading the Warren Buffett profile in Time in front of the fire tonight.

Being able to comfort someone who needed comforting. Just two coffee cups on a table. Long-emptied. And an honest conversation about to expect in the future: a little but of pain and doubt, loneliness and boredom. And eventually, a new happy.

A warm day for a long run. In january. A Sunday night that isn’t really a Sunday night. But a dinner party with friends. (Dayton is grateful for a quiet roads that let his mind stretch.)
